STOCKTON,CA: May 29, saw another successful fund raiser dinner for the World Sikh News. It was held at the residence of Dr.H.S.Shergill, The event was well attended by supporters of the newspaper who expressed their satisfaction with the work being done by the weekly paper, which has been working hard to make the voice of the whole Sikh community heard.

Mr.N.S.Somal, Secretary of WSN initiated the discussion by relating the circumstances under which the paper was started after the period of shock and dismay experienced by the community m 1984 and, how the paper has progressed since then. Mrs.Boparai, commended the pa per for its work and called upon the audience to contribute their collective might for the growth of the paper, She said, “one could reach out to the world only through the media.” She also stressed the need 10 read and educate others so people know what was happening to Sikhs all over the world and especially in India,

Dr H.S.Shergill read out an emotional poem  a tribute to the Sikh martyrs in the struggle for Khalistan,

Sardar Makhan Singh of Sacramento praised the paper for its accurate reporting and said it was a symbol of Sikh unity, He called for an improvement and enlargement of the English section. Professor Kirpal Singh Grewal of Merced stressed the importance of teaching Punjabi to Sikh children or be prepared to face extinction of our culture, S.Bakhish Singh of Saera men to regretted that the community had still not realized the importance of a powerful media and stressed the need for this.

Dr.N.S, Dhaliwal said that their clumsiness under which the WSN took birth should never be forgot ten. The Sikh community of Stock ton has taken the lead in making the voice of the Sikhs heard and the rest of the community must help to carry our voice of the world, “Take the Leader ship, take it to new heights, We are with you,” he said. Sinder jit Singh, stressed the need to make the WSN self-sufficient and independent which may re quire some changes in the completion of the paper. He said Khalistan is viable and the Sikhs must have it many countries in the world were land locked, smaller in size yet flourished, Dr.G.S.Dhillon spoke of the changing environment and the role of the WSN in the environment. Party of which is to generate dynamism and mobilize public opinion for Khalistan:

Sardar Harpal Singh of Tracy gave some interesting statistics about the potenual of Khalistan,

Dr.Gurinder Singh Grewal, Editor in Chief of the WSN thanked the audience for their valuable support and assured them that the World Sikh News would continue to pursue the goal of Khalistan so that our brothers and Sisters there could have the same opportunities which “we have here.” The fund raiser was a grand success and the overwhelming response of the Sikh community of Stockton, Sacramento, Tracy and neighboring cities was indicative of the trust and faith the Sikh community reposed in WSN’s efforts.
