DALLAS: Prof. Tomio Mozokami was honored by the Sikh Study Circle in Dallas at the residence of Dr. Harbans Lal on August 2 according to a newsletter of the circle.
Prof. Mozokami is the professor of Indian and Pakistani studies at Osaka University (Japan). He speaks fluent Punjabi, Hindi and Bengali.
Jason Singh Dhall was among the five member team in the Carpenter Middle School’s Odyssey of the Mind world champions. The Carpenter team took the gold medal and a Ranatara Fusca award for outstanding creativity in the world competitions in Boulder, Colo., at the end of May.
Twenty seven young Sikhs from all over Texas came together for the 1989 SSC Sikh Camp. The Camp was held July 2329 at Lake Lewisville State Park in Frisco, 40 miles north of Dallas.
At the camp among others were Dr. Gurbaksh Singh (Washington) Giani Mani Singh (Canada), Bhai Harbhajan Singh (Phoenix), Bhai Harbans Lal (Dallas) and S. Jujar Singh Bains (Dallas). The children learned about the Sikh way of life, about Sikh history, Shabad Kirtan and Punjabi language.
A number of kids wanted to adopt uncut hair, a basicsymbol of Sikh faith. At the “End of Camp Diwan”, the campers recited Kirtan, and read Sakhis. Prizes were presented to all the campers by Giani Mani Singh and Special Awards were also given, according to the newsletter.
