BOMBAY: Krishnamacharl Srikanth was Saturday unanimously retained as the captain of the Indian Cricket team to tour Pakistan in November December.
The five member selection committee, which met here under the chairmanship of Raj Singh Durgapur hardly took any time to name the 29yearold Tamil Nadu opener, who had led India in the champions cup at Sharjah and the Nehru cut at home as the skipper.
‘The decision was announced to the press by Joint Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI, C. Nagraj here. The names of the 15 other members of the squad, who would play fora test and four one day internationals in Pakistan are expected to be announced Sunday.
This would be the first time that Srik Kkanth would lead India in a test series. The dashing Tamil Nedu opener, who made a disastrous debut against England here in 198182 by getting himself run out after taking a casual walkout of the crease when the ball was not dead, has played 35 tests i his up and down career. The torsion acid test for him as the tour of New Zealand follows in quick succession.
(BOMBAY) However, Dilip Vengsar kar dropped a bombshell by opting out of the Indian Cricket team’s forthcoming tour of Pakistan, citing mental and physical staleness 1s the reason for his unexpected.
The 33yearold elegant Bombay Bats man, who lost his captaincy to Srikanth following India’s dismal performance in the West Indies earlier this year, gave a signed letter asking not to consider his name for the tour commencing on November 10.
In a brief later be stated I wish to inform you that at the moment I am physically and mentally stale and hence I request you not to consider me for the tour of Pakistan. I wish the Indian team great success.
Vegsarkar’s decision caught everyone, including the selectors by surprise even though he is having one of the leanest trots in his illustrious career spanning 14 years. (PTI).
