MEHTA CHOWK, Punjab, India: Bhai Jasbir Singh Khalsa is intensely campaigning for unity among the various Sikh militant groups. He stated here that a new chief of the united A.LS.S.P. Will be announced on April 13 at Damdama Sahib in Bathinda. Bhai Jasbir Singh, 35 year old nephew of Sant Bhindranwale, who was restored as the Chief of Akal Takht after his release from jail told a news agency at the Damdami Sahib Head office that he was confident of the success in his move for bringing about Panthic unity. The meeting of April 13 he said was a major achievement towards that end. Bhai Jasbir Singh who has been touring Punjab for the past week, talking to religious and militant leaders for various factions said that majority of them wanted unity. Asked whether his call for Puran Azadi was the same as the militant’s demand for Khalistan. Bhai Jasbir Singh said let us get together and then we shall speak with one voice. He refused to be drawn into either supporting or opposing the demand for Khalistan. He said that he was in touch with several top militant group leaders who were underground and expected their representatives to participate in the Damdama Sahib meeting. He said that the four militant groups inside the Golden Temple Complex, Khalistan Commando Force, Khalistan Liberation Force, Bhindranwale Tiger Force, and Babbar Khalsa have agreed to his unity move.
