NEW DELHI: India’s defence minister Sharad Pawar has been nominated by Prime Minister Narasimha Rao to lead Maharashtra as its chief minister in place of Sudhakarrao Naik who resigned a few days ago. This was stated by a spokesman of the ruling party. Pawar nursed hopes of replacing Narasimha Rao as prime minister but his wings were clipped by Rao. The ruling party spokesman said that Pawar would continue 16 plays a role at the national level also. The prime minister will now have to look for another de fence minister.
