Sometime some persons become popular and known by the name of their village. This has exactly happened in case of S. Mohinder Singh, who is popularly mentioned by his village’s name Thandi. His subcastes “Bains” is hardly known to anyone.
- Thandi, a very soft spoken, clean hearted, dedicated and sincere person, is very popular in social and religious circles of the Sikh Community of Fresno.
- Thandi was born to Sardarni Hukam Kaur and S. Dalip Sing on September 21, 1921 at V. Thandi.
He was married to Mrs. Harjit Kaur in 1938. They are the proud parents of six grown up children, Sohar Singh (41) Jagtar Singh (35), Harbans Kaur (43 Sukhwinder Bholi (27), Jo ginderalan (25) and Inderji Singh (18).
- Thandi and the family migrated to U.S.A. on September 9, 1950. His uncle S. Ishar Singh Thandi, who was a great revolutionary of his times and was a close associate of Ghardri Baba Bhai Surjan Singh, sponsored their migration process.
- Mohinder Singh Thandi is a “landlord” of Fresno in India’s terminology. He has specialized in grapes and peaches.
Sardar Thandi is one of leading figures, who not only donated large amounts to Gurdwara Sahib Caruthers but also worked ceaselessly to make this dream a reality.
