LUCKNOW: Asian games gold medal lists South Korea on March 3rd scored a 7-0 win over Japan in a round-robin match of the Indira Gandhi gold cup hockey tournament at the Dhyan Chand stadium in Lucknow, capital of northern Uttar Pradesh state,
They led 5-0 at half-time,
The South Koreans now lead the table with seven points off four matches and are sure of at least the second place in the tournament.
Hosts India is second in the points tally with six points off three matches and they have two matches, against Japan and South Korea, in the six nation tournament
Earlier, Malaysia inflicted the third consecutive defeat
Upon Poland, winning 2-0, to bring their total to four points from as many matches.
Earlier Poland notched up their first win in the fourth Indira Gandhi International Gold Cup Hockey Tournament, edging out Kenya 1-O at the Dhyan Chand stadium here on March 4th
Captain Karol Podzorski scored their first goal in the tournament three minutes from final hooter after missing several chances,
Poland put up their best show so far in the tournament, and dominated most part of the match.
Playing an attacking game from the start, Poland forced their first penalty comer in the fifth minute which proved futile. The polish captain got the first chance in the 20th minute but he drove straight into goalkeeper Joseph Moambuki
Paczkowski, who schemed most of the moves in the first session, also wasted a good chance, driving a ball at the goalkeeper two minutes later.
Podzorski muffed at least five fine chances before opening his team’s account in the six-national nation round robind tournament.
However, he made amends for his earlier lapses with a splendid goal with a left-handed sweep from an acute angle, after penetrating into the circle with a niesvchorski pass.
