Jagjit Singh Gill is one of the founder members of the World Sikh News. He is one of the well-known Sikhs of the Central Valley. His sweet nature, friendly postures, sincerity to the cause and help to the needy, has made him a friend of friends,
Jagjit was born to Mrs. Kesar Kaur and S. Labh Singh on April 21, 1922 at V. Dhudhike. He passed matriculation from Khalsa School Chuhar Chak. Later he joined the Army and served in Hudson Horse up to 1951, But his traditional profession of agriculture compelled him to leave the army to take up the farming at home.
Jagjit, who was eager to move ahead in life went to Ganga Nagar in 1955 and jumped into the trucking business and also managed his agricultural farm at Hanuman Garh up to 1965. Earlier his father S. Labh Singh came to India in 1964 after 35 years stay in America, but next year after returning to USA his father left for heavenly abode at Selma in March 1965. So Jagjit Singh Gill came to USA to complete the rites of his father. But young Gill got attracted to the new life of America and never thought of going back to India.
Jagjit Singh was married to Sardarni Hardyal Kaur in 1945. Now they are the proud parents of five sons and one daughter, Baldev Singh, Harnek Singh Jagdey Singh Jagroop Singh, Harjinder Singh, and Nachhattar Kaur. All these children are well established and married. Jagroop Singh Gill is a practicing lawyer at Fresno, whereas the youngest Harjinder is managing a store. The elder sons are managing the farm, which the Gills are owning and managing an agricultural farm of 1500 acres at Chowchilla. Sardar Gill has served as president of Gurdwara Sahib Stockton for five years. He was also a guiding force behind the efforts to construct Gurdwara Sahib at Caruthers. His personal contribution of $50,000.00 went a long way to inspire others to donate generously. There may be hardly any Guru Ghar where the Gills may not have donated generously.
