NEW DELHL, India: The Punjab police Chief J.S. Ribeiro wants to get rid of almost entire set of senior police officers who are in the rank of LGS. and D.I.G.S. and replace them by outside officers. This is part of his plan to revitalize in the police department.
According to Indian Express correspondent J.S. Chawla, Ribeiro has sent a list of senior Punjab police officers, two are of I.G. rank and seven of D.LG. whom he wants to be taken away by the Home Ministry and posted outside Punjab. The reason given by Ribeiro is that these officers have not so far made any significant effort. Some of these are reportedly unhappy at the Governor’s regime and some of them are not considered up to the mark in the present situation.
The names suggested by Ribeiro to be posted outside Punjab are: P.S. Hurra, who was LG. Intelligence during Barnala government. He was considered close to Barnala and Balwant, Mr. RK. Sharma. 1G. Punjab Armed Police at Jullundur, PC. Dogra, PS. Bhullar, M.S. Bhullar, D.S. Bhullar, RP. Joshi, S.S. Sharma and S.K. Verma, all D.I.Gs. P.C. Dogra of Jullundur range is being accommodated, however, Home Ministry is still wondering where to adjust all the other senior officers of Punjab:
There is no proposal as yet for any of these officers and Home Ministry is still in the process of searching. Ribeiro seems to be bitter about Hurra and wants him to be taken out from Punjab first. Hurra has served in the Intelligence Bureau also. The Punjab Police Chief has asked for services of 8 police officers of the rank of D.LG. From outside Punjab to replace senior officers recommended by him for transfer from Punjab. But the Centre is finding it difficult to find officers to send to Punjab. There are not many officers willing to go to Punjab.
