RODE, Faridkot, Punjab,India: A senior leader of the United Akali Dal, Baba Joginder Singh, told Mr. J.F. Ribeiro, Director General of the Punjab Police, that he had been under house arrest since May 18.
Mr. LF. Ribeiro, who is on a tour of Moga subdivision, met the Baba at the residence of his son, Mr. Harjit Singh.
The Baba also told the police chief that he was busy in baptizing ‘and preaching against social evils. He said that the police had impounded his two vehicles.
The 76 year old father of the Jate Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale said if Mr. Ribeiro’s directions regarding harassment in true spirit it would be a good thing.
The Baba cited a few cases of harassment against women of Rode village. Mr. Ribeiro directed the SSP, Faridkot, to exercise caution in this regard Mr Ribeiro, besides promising the Baba that he would look into his complaints, assured him that the government would do the needful for conducting cataract operation on the Baba’s left eye.
Mr. Ribeiro went around the village and inquired from a few women about their welfare, A woman said that her daughter was harassed by the police.
