CHANDIGARH (PTI) :A red alert has been sounded and the security forces in north Indian states of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh have been put on maximum alert on the eve of India’s Independence Day in view of the call given by the militants to observe a ‘Black Day’ and a bandh in Punjab.
The step has been taken following Intelligence reports that militants may strike in a big way to avenge the recent killings of three top militants, Bhai Sukhdev Singh Babbar, Bhai Gurjant Singh Budsinghwala and Bhai Amrik Singh Kauli,
Various Sikh organizations, including the Mann faction of the Akali Dal, have given a call to boycott the Independence Day functions and observe a Black Day.
Security Personnel in heavy strength has been deployed in Punjab and Chandigarh at the venues where Independence Day celebrations would be held and the roads around them have been totally sealed,
The security personnel have detained a number of Sikhs in Punjab and Chandigarh. The security around important buildings and monuments has also been strengthened,
