The following form letter has been written because an urgent need is felt to hopefully reverse the Canadian Govt’s decision to deport as many as 2800 Sikhs currently in Canada who had been hoping to abtain immigrant status. Supposedly, the deportation might not start taking place until the refugees have been through oral hearings of their cases, but by then it will be too late to save them. The importance of this appeal cannot be over emphasized, If allowed to remain in the West, these Sikhs will certainly contribute much to Sikhism and to humanity whereas in India, itis not certain whether they will remain alive or not. feel that the best hope of influencing the Canadian Government lies in sending as many of these form letters to the Canadian Government as soon as possible and along with each letter, sending a copy of the recently published report Oppression in Punjab. Copies of the report are available at the following address:

‘Sikh Religious and Educational Trust P.O. Box 292612, Columbus, Ohio, 43229.

The Trust will not accept any payment for the copies, but any donations will be helpful and greatly appreciated. All Sikhs, especially those living in Canada, must write to the Canadian Govt. only by a massive effort from Sikh individuals and from every Sikh organization in North America can we hope to change the Govt’s mind. Please make copies of the following letter and send them to the following addresses. The livelihood and lives of 2000 Sikhs hang in the balance.
