NEW DELHI: Freedom fighters Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Maulana Abdul Kalam Azadhave been posthumously awarded the nation’s highest honor the Bharat Ratna a presidential communiqué said late Wednesday.
The award for Netaji comes on eve of his birthday on Thursday. Subhas Bose founded the Indian National Army (INA) to liberate India from the clutches of the British colonialism and Azad a renowned nationalist Muslim and Islamic scholar firmly stood by the country at the time of partition Bose played a significant role in the county’s freedom struggle and organized the Indian National Army on August 25-1943 to liberate the country from the British Imperialism. On October21-1943 he formed the Azad Hind (free India) government.
Netaji started his political career 1921 after resigning from the Indian civil service. He joined the Indian national congress and noncooperation movement of Mahauma Gandhi and he was imprisoned and detained several times.
In 1938 he was elected the president of the Indian national Congress. He was elected a gain to this high office in 1939 He also founded the forward bloc within the Congress.
Netaji was believed to have been killed in an air crash in 1945 though many say there was no tangible Proof that this had indeed occurred.
