BOMBAY: Opposition Congress (I) leader Rajiy Gandhi has urged the National Front to elect a new leader, because according to him premier Singh had brought the country “close to disaster.”
Gandhi made it known that his own party would not like to come into govt “without a mandate”, but would be “positive” if the Janata Dal chose another leader, PTI reports.
In an interview to R K Karanjita, editor of Blitz weekly, he charged that V P Singh was “willing to divide India in a manner that even Jinnah could not do, the British could not do, for his personal aggrandisement.”
On the controversial Mandal report and other issues, the former prime minister asserted in the interview that the administration had become paralysed because of “indecision” in the political leadership. Nothing seems to be moving at all, It is all paralysed. There are contradictions, conflicts, Bureaucracy is against the govt.
Reiterating his party’s postelection offer of constructive support to the ruling party, Gandhi affirmed that the offer remained open. The offer, he clarified, was not to an individual, The offer was to a party. And it remains open,
My personal feeling is that the prime minister’s prophetic statement that he will be a disaster is coming absolutely true and it is about time the party chose another leader. Then our response will be Positive.
