VANCOUVER, Oct. 15, Reuter: Queen Elizabeth has accepted the resignation of the British appointed Governor General of Fiji, a Buckingham Palace statement said on Thursday.

‘The statement, released during the Commonwealth Summit in this Western Canadian city, follows months of constitutional turmoil in the South Pacific Island nation and Colonel Sitiveni Rabuka’s declaration of a Republic of Fiji after staging a second mi coup in five months on September 25.

It said Governor General Ratu Sir Penaia Ganilau’s resignation had been accepted with regret.
