CHANDIGARH: Over the week, 57 persons were killed and two activists of the Congress (I) and CPI were killed in an “encounter” with security forces in village Mansoor Wala Chhota in Ferozepore district last night. The encounter took place when the security forces raided a farm house where the men were hiding.
In another encounter near village Daulat Ram also in the same district one man was killed and his accomplices escaped. One AK 47 rifle along with 15 cartridges and a rocket launcher were recovered from the spot.
In another encounter Sukhbir Singh was killed near Drain Bridge of village Bhakhri na in Kapurthala district Thursday night.
Reports said that a police party was taking Sukhbir Singh to a place in the police jeep when they were attacked. In the return fire Sukhbir Singh was killed.
Police picked up a bullet ridden body from Nawan village area of Majitha police district. Intergang rivalry was stated to be the cause of killing.
Two persons, bearing same name Iqbal Singh were shot dead in village Batala in Jalandhar district last night.

One Sadha Singh of village Nangal Kazot in Batala police district was shot dead. Empties of AK47 were recovered from the spot. A bullet riddled body was recovered from Bhinder village under Beas police station area of Amritsar district today.
In another incident an unidentified person was shot dead in Nijjar village under Jandiala police station area of Amritsar district.
Two intruders from Pakistan were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Khem-Karan sector of IndoPak border Thursday night. One .32 bore revolver and some cartridges were recovered from the spot.
Twenty seven persons, including nine militants, one of them belonging to the Babbar Khalsa, Malagar Singh, who carried a reward of RS five lakh on his head, and eight security men were killed in Punjab since Wednesday night.
