Chandigarh: All migrant Sikh families who had unauthorizedly ‘occupied government flats in phase IX in S.A.S. Nagar were compelled to vacate these on December 24. Hectic efforts were being made, Mr. Bachitar Singh and sand Dr. Jasmer Singh, President of the Mohali citizens council to persuade the authorities to allow the migrants to stay on until alternative arrangements could be made by the police.
A large police force was deployed near the flats and luggage and household goods of the migrants were removed from the flats. ‘The migrants had hoped that the Akali government would allot these to them. Earlier most of them were living either in Gurdwara or rented accommodation. A large number of these migrants are without any means of livelihood and were finding it difficult to meet the daily needs of their families.
