NORTH HOLLY WOOD, CA: On Oct21, L.A. police acting on a court order evicted a group of Sikh men who had occupied the Gurdwara since Oct 10,
A report in the L.A, Times dated Oct21, says that the Gurdwara Management filed a suit against members of the Sikh Youth of America accusing them of mounting a hostile and violent takeover of the North Hollywood temple.” According to the report, “four members of the group took the temple priest as hostage at gun point last March 22 and destroyed the temple security equipment” They also beat up several of the Gurdwara board members on Qct.3. This is contested by the Opposing group who say they were attacked first.
The dispute is basically between the management consisting of a nine member board of directors and another group led by Lakhbir Singh Chima seeking control of the Gurdwara and its funds. This is an all too familiar story which has been the bane of Sikh politics in India and is becoming so abroad.
