NEW DELHI: The Tenth Lok Sabha (lower house of Indian parliament) is expected to be constituted by the election commission June 20.
A notification to this effect will be issued by the election commission Tuesday. President Ramaswamy Venkatraman has already fixed a deadline for constitution of the 10th Lok Sabha by June 20, according to official sources,
The commission, the sources said, had sent a special communique to all chief electoral officers asking them to expedite the results by June 19 to notify names of members elected to the New Lok Sabha,
Results of all seats, where counting was undertaken is expected by Wednesday, the sources further added.
The Ninth Lok Sabha, which was constituted on December 2,1989 was president dissolved on March 12,1991, following withdrawal of support by Congress-I from Chandra Shekhar ministry on the controversial.
The Tenth Lok Sabha is likely to hold a brief session to administer oath to the newly elected members next week. This would be followed by the budget session to tide-over the serious constitutional crisis on the nation’s economic front.
Financial expenditure from the government’s exchequer is permissible only till July 31. The last session of the house had passed vote-on-account for the period till July 31, 1991.
Soon after administering the oath, the house will elect the speaker. The actual strength of the New Lok Sabha at the time of its constitution will be 511 with elections not having been held in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
