WASHINGTON: The chief Palestinian negotiator accused Israel on Nov.17 of taking inflexible positions on an Arab-Israeli settlement and said the outlook for peace in the Middle East was dim.
“I don’t know if the peace process can really succeed” Haidar Abdul-Shafi said after a three-hour meeting with an Israeli delegation.
Despite the pessimistic account the two sides discussed the disposition of territory on the West Bank and in Gaza as well as economic problems and Israel said it was prepared to hold another round of peace talks here next month.
