Lahore Pakistan, Nov. 28, Pakistan crushed England by an innings and 87 runs in the first cricket test on Saturday but a fierce controversy over the umpiring refused to die away
After England were spun out for 130 in their second innings, equaling their lowest ever score against Pakistan, skipper Mike Gating blamed the two Pakistani officials.
“There were blatant decisions by the umpires. No less than six or seven decisions went against US”, he raged. “If the umpiring in the next two test matches does not improve, I think relations between the two sides might get strained”.
But England’s anger was dismissed by Pakistani skipper Javed Miandad, Buoyant over a crushing win in his first. Test since taking Over as Captain Come Imran Khan who retired after the recent one day World Cup tournament.
In a message to Miandad, Pakistani President Mohammad Zia ul Haq congratulated the team on their “astounding victory” and called on them to keep up the pace for the test of the series,
“Think England are making unnecessary excuses for losing”, Miandad said, He recalled that Pakistan had beaten England by an innings at Headingly, Leeds, earlier this year and then twice in the World Cup in Pakistan.
“The problem with them is that none of them; not even their umpires, can detect what Abdul Qadir is bowling,” he said,
