JAIPUR (PTI): Over 50% of the 28, 3 million electorate in the northwestern Indian state of Rajasthan exercised their franchise Novy.11 to elect 199 members to the state assembly.
‘The fate of 2,437 candidates was sealed in ballot boxes to elect 199 of the 200 members; Election from Rajakhera was countermanded following the death of a Bharatiya Janata Party nominee.
Barring stray incidents of booth capturing in Sikarand Tizara constituencies, polling remained orderly and peaceful, official sources in the state capital said.
Polling was halted at a polling station each in Sikar and Tizara immediately after incidents of violence. Repoll was being recommended at both the polling centers.
Timely action by a polling officer at another center in Tizara nipped an attempt at bogus voting.
With final reports from several parts of the state still pouring in, the polling percentage is likely to rise up to between 55 and 60%.
