CHANDIGARH: Over hundred Delhi Transport Corporation buses were damaged in scattered incidents of violence during the one day bandh called by opposition parties and Trade Unions to protest against the recent increase in the prices, An opposition spokesman claimed that bandh was a complete success. The entire commercial and industrial businesses came to a stand still, many decided to remain closed. The police made lathi charges at several places to prevent the protestors from damaging D.T.C. buses and disrupting the traffic. More than 300 activists of the party, including large number of women were taken in custody on the charges of writing and damaging the public property. Clearing operations, were suspended at Reserve Bank of India as class three employees stayed away from work on a call by the R.B.L. employee’s association, All the other banks functioned normally. At several traffic junctions groups of protestors shouting slogans against the price hike and the Government stopped buses and broke window panes. The Band call was given by the BJP, the Janata Party, C.P.J, CPM, LOK DAL and few other parties and trade unions
