NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday issued notices to the government and enforcement directorate on a writ petition by Ajitabh Bachchan, currently based. in Switzerland, seeking an order to prohibit the directorate of enforcement from proceeding with its appeal before the foreign exchange regulation act (FERA) appellate board in a pending case against him.
A division bench, comprising Chief Justice R N Pyne and Justice P N Nag, adjourned the hearing till November 5, after hearing arguments of the senior counsel G Ramaswamy, appearing for Bachchan.
The counsel argued that only issue in question was as to when Ajitabh Bachchan had acquired the nonresident status. He submitted that Bachchan joined a Swiss firm after receiving a letter of employment in February 1986.
He said that Bachchan was interrogated in detail as to how he had acquired immobile property in Switzerland.
The petition submitted that all proceeding against Bachchan were dropped after he furnished affidavits, documents to support his contention that he became NRT on February 20. 1986.
