KATHMANDU, July 2, Reuter: Nepal has accused Indian police of arson and pillage in Nepal and New Delhi’s warplanes of intruding on its air space.

Foreign Minister, Shailendra Kumar Upadhayaya told Nepal’s National Assembly on Friday the alleged intrusion occurred from the northeast India region of Darjeeling, where Gurkhas originally from Nepal are fighting for autonomy.

Upadhyaya charged that a group of Indian police entered Nepali territory last December, burned six houses to the ground and stole property he did not identify.

He said a protest letter was handed to the Indian Ambassador in Kathmandu two days after their incident, but he did not say whether reply had been received.

Upadhyaya also said that Indian air force planes had violated Nepal’s airspace twice in April and demanded there be no repetition: He did not say if a further protest had been lodged with New Delhi.
