NEW DELHI: No names about the recipients of the 1987 Bofors payoffs have been given to the Indian Government, according to a top Bofors AB official.

Soren Gindahl, vice president of Bofors Weapon Systems told reporters, here, that correspondence ex- changed between the Swedish and Indian Governments over the FH-77 gun deal between 1991-93 might be made public in the next couple of months.

Gindhal said that he did not think that the correspondence contained names of any pay-off beneficiaries. Contradicting reports appearing in a section of the press, he said that he had been “misquoted, and misunderstood.”

Recounting his remarks made during the recent news conference, the Bofors official said that “I never said that names have been given to the Indian Government. Correspondence has been exchanged between the two Governments. That does not mean that names have been given.”
