ROURKELA: Rourkela-based Kalyan Ramji Sain is all set to claim a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for an esoteric achievement the longest moustache in the world.

At a casual glance Kalyan Ramji does not look very different. It appears as if he is sporting a luxuriant beard. But when asked to display his moustache, he starts untying like a magician performing the Indian rope trick  and soon the 327 cm long moustache outsizes his height. True, it would definitely be the envy of Agatha Christie’s super sleuth Hercules Poirot.

Kalyan Ramji, 66, who hails from Rajasthan, has been at Rourkela since 1952. Around 16 years back he underwent an eye operation and was advised by the doctor not to take a bath for a couple of weeks, During this period of convalescence his moustache grew two and a half feet in length. This inspired Kalyan Ramji and he decided to keep growing his moustache. Today he is all set to displace Sweden’s Berger Paillas, who holds the World record with a 290cm long moustache.

Kalyan Ramji does get irritated in caressing his moustache. Weekly application of dye and daily application of oil is sufficient to ensure smooth growth. He is not satisfied in resting on his laurels and wants to achieve greater lengths.”
