CHANDIGARH, India; Mizoram Chief Minister, Mr. Laldenga has announced general amnesty for all the underground Mizo guerrillas who were fighting for independence for the last twenty years. He said all cases against underground Mizos are being withdrawn and the already convicted members of Mizoram front will also be released. He expressed the hope that the Congress (I) and Mizo National Front coalition will have no difficulty in functioning smoothly.
Interestingly, the similar request of the Punjab government and other political parties for general amnesty to Sikhs has consistently been turned down by the Central government.
