LUDHIANA: Four militant organizations in a highly publicized statement condemned the 50 year old corrupt Akali culture and owned responsibility for the attack on SGPC Chief GS Tohra who they said was a symbol of that culture.

Tohra had a miraculous escape in a armed attack and is now undergoing treatment in the Oswal Hospital here. Two persons were killed.

The KLF, KCF, Babbar Khalsa and AISSF in a joint statement regretted the two deaths and said the two should not have travelled with the traitor. The militants said Tohra was the leading light of the corrupt Akali culture which had sold off the community for their selfish interests. This leadership flouted the basic principles of Sikhism. While the Sikhs were passing through a critical time these leaders were busy in their games of political one upmanship, they added.

They said, the militants were against the killing of any person but were at times compelled to eliminate those opposing Khalistan. If the Akali leaders could not take up arms the least they should do was to keep quiet.

The militant action against Tohra has jolted the other Akalis. The prime minister spoke to him over the phone and the Deputy PM Fol-flew in to ask about Tohra’s welfare.

Tohra did not react to the militant’s statement except to deny a role in Operation Bluestar. On the Longowal accord for the first time. This accord if accepted would be suicidal for Punjab he said.

Meanwhile, the Panthic Committee has appealed to the United Nations and Amnesty International to intervene to stop police repression in Punjab. Dr. Harnam Singh Sandhu of the KCF said a committee comprising Talvinder Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Amrik Singh, Dalbir Singh and Uday Singh met at his place to review the situation. They reiterated the call for Khalistan.
