NEW DELHI: Major political parties have asked the Center to take initiative to carve out a separate rate state of Jharkhand from Bihar putting the Congress I government in a difficult position.

State party leaders of the Congress-I the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Communist Party of India said of their meeting with the Home Minister Mr. S.B. Chavan on the Jharkhand matters that they supported the demand for a separate state to be formed by joining 16 districts of Chhotanagpur Santhal Pargana. The BJP reiterated its demand for a “Vananchal state” within Bihar.

The Janata Dal too put across its views stating that it was for the Centre to take initiative and short cut the Jharkhand tangle. The party delegation he added by the state Janata Dal president Mr. Ram Sunder Das asked the Centre to express its views on the contentious issues first.

Mr. Das reiterated the Janata Dal’s position stating that the demand for a creation of Jharkhand state involved three other states of Orissa Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal too.
