STOCKTON: Mr. Michael J. Machado was graciously feted at a fundraiser hosted by Mr. Narinder S. Somal and Mrs. Satwant Kaur Somal of Stockton
Mr. Machado provided this statement to W S.N. to explain his Positions as he aims for a seat in the California State Assembly We Wish him well in his bid to represent those in his area.
“I am a family farmer. In our business there is accountability. If we don’t produce we go broke. It’s that simple. So we watch our costs work hard and get things done. I was educated in economics at Stanford and the University of California I am married have three children and served as an Officer in the United States Navy with service in Vietnam.
California was once thought of as a land of infinite resources today it is faced with finite resources We have dirty air ground that can take no more garbage schools that are underfunded and overcrowded and an ocean that is being polluted. The infrastructures of our cities and the country at large are breaking down. Our cities lack affordable housing and crime is rampant California is losing jobs and business activity is depleted. If people aren’t working they aren’t earning and they don’t pay taxes. Businesses find it more profitable to leave California because of high taxation and over regulation.
California has a budget shortfall approaching $11 billion yet the bureaucracy is full of inefficiencies. The current administration spends $70 million on welfare fraud yet recovers only $17 million Cal Trans spends 44% of its budget on engineering while the average costs for other states is 15%. That is $500 million in extra costs.
This is a new era for California
We must challenge the way things were done in the past. That which works must be exploited that which does not must be changed. We must inventory our resources be innovative in our thinking and we must act. Our schools must be improved. All Californians must have access to basic health care that provides long term care and stresses health promotion. California needs a renaissance in business and industry. The loss of 600,000 jobs is intolerable. California should be the leader in technology agriculture research and mass transit.
The environment must be protected. Sounds environmental policy will stimulate the economy not stifle it. People should not live in fear. We must support law enforcement.
I want the opportunity to use my training in economics my background in business farming and education the skills acquired while working with local state and national government leaders and my experience in the international marketplace to make a better California for our children and their children. I can think I am innovative and I will get things done. I will produce results.”
