NEW DELHI, India: The Libyan foreign minister Saturday urged the 101 nations of the Non Aligned Movement to punish the United States for its air raid on Libya and other policies by “directing blows against it everywhere.”
Ina speech on the last day of a four-day NAM foreign ministers ‘meeting, Libyan envoy Kamal Hassan Al Mansour charged the U.S attacks on Tripoli and Benghazi “put the world on the verge of a war in the Mediterranean region.”
“The main objective … was to Kill the leader of a non-aligned ‘country, “he said, referring to Moammar Khadafy, who was not injured in the raids Tuesday.
The United States claimed the attack was in retaliation for alleged Libyan involvement in terrorist’s attacks against Americans after efforts to persuade Khadafy to end such operations failed.
A delegation of foreign ministers was to leave for Libya Sunday to convey a message of support for Khadafy. The group was then to fly to New York to deliver to UN official’s conference resolution condemning the raids.
In his speech, Al Mansour charged the United States plans strikes against other governments it opposes, including Nicaragua, Afghanistan and Cambodia.
“The U.S policies and hegemony is like an epidemic, but to stop a part of it is not going to stop all of it,” he said.
“We should consider all means to put an end to this madness by enlarging our attacks against it (the United States) in all fields,” he said.
The Libyan official did not specify what type of action the 101 NAM members should take against the United States
In detailing what he described as the “many problems” caused by the United States, Al Mansour said Washington was responsible for the continuation of apartheid, or racial segregation, in South Africa.
He also blamed apartheid on Britain, which has been condemned by Libya for permitting US. ‘Bombers based in Britain to participate in the Libyan raid.
Britain and the United States have rejected calls for economic sections against South Africa. Migual D’Escoto Brockman, said the crisis in Central America was a result of Washington’s “interventionist polices.”
Referring to the Reagan administration’s support for Contra rebels fighting to oust the leftist Sandinista government, D’Escoto said, “The United States should renounce the use of war against the governments with which it disagrees,”
The NAM ministers were to meet in a final session late Saturday to approve economic and political resolutions.
