I was saddened to read the Letters to the Editor from G. Singh, California (10 January 1992) and Dr. Piara Singh, Cerritos, CA (24 January 1992). At this critical time in Sikh history, the best possible direction we as Sikh brethren can take is to work together, Only by working as one Panth, can we hope to end the continuing denial of even the most basic human rights in Punjab. Only by working together as one Panth, can we pressure the news media throughout the world to tell the true story of Punjab, When individual Sikh voices speak out only to emphasize differences within the Panth there suiting lack of unity allows those who mean to destroy us to gain strength. That weakness, which is the direct consequence of our division, allows our persecutors to continue to tell the world the false propaganda that Sikhs are victimizers
But when our voices finally become united, we will then have the strength and the power to compel the news media around the world total the truth that Sikhs are really the victims! then, when the true plight to Sikhs in Punjab is known throughout the world, worldwide pressure can be brought on the central government to end its reign of terror.
“The time has passed when we as Sikhs can afford to accuse each other of being less than true Sikhs. There are many differences amongst us. Some are born of India, some are not. Some keep the 5Ks others do not even deep their Kesh. Some rise in the Amrit Vela to Meditate on the Name of God, while others merely steep. Some find up lift ment
in regular recitation of Gurbani, white others find false solace in alcohol. And there are some who follow the Rehit Maryada exactly as given by the S.G.P.C,, while others have modified those standards of Sikh living.
But, for us to continue to look to our differences rather than to overlook them, is just what the “oppressors of Punjab wants us to do. “Divide and conquer” is the oldest and most successful strategy. United we stand! Let us unite together, all as Sikh brethren, to bring an end to the prosecution of Punjab!! Now is the time! Time is now!
Through Guru Nanak/Guru Gobind Singh may His Name forever increase and His Spirit be exalted, and may all people prosper by His Grace.
Sincerely,
Mukhia Singh Sahib
