JAMMU (PTI): A senior police Official was among 110 policemen suspended May 2 after the police strike in Kashmir valley fizzled out.
Official sources said here the commandant of 11th Battalion of Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police (KAP), A.S. Lone, and 109 other policemen have been suspended on charges of instigating the strike in Srinagar and other parts of the valley.
The nine day old strike ended Saturday as most of the sinking policemen reported to work despite the announcement by the police coordination committee that the strike would continue till May 3.
A team of senior officers have been screening the policemen for dereliction of duty, the sources said, adding more dismissals or suspensions could not be ruled out.
All the Jammu and Kashmir policemen had revolted in Kashmir valley on April23 to protest against the custodial death of Constable Riaz Ahmed.
The agitating policemen had said they would resume duties only after the dismissal of S.S.P. (city), Srinagar, K.Rajindran, from service and judicial inquiry into. The arrest and death of Riaz Ahmed.
Rajindran’s transfer did not satisfy the sinking cops, who continued their strike with more demands.
