NEW DELHI: Heavyweight wrestler Kartar Singh, who was recently elected President of the Punjab Wrestling Association has been dropped from the all police team which left for Canada yesterday to take part in the World Police Games.
Kartar Singh said here today that he was told that six athletes and one wrestler were being dropped by the Government due to paucity of foreign exchange,
A nine member team had left yesterday for the Games.
Kartar Singh said he was not sure who ‘Was responsible for his elimination from the wrestling squad.
Kartar has represented the country 24 times in international arenas and has taken Part in three Olympics and an equal number of Asian Games and had been a gold medal winner in Asiad;
He said that a sum of Rs 45,000 given by the Punjab Police had been deposited with the Government as his contribution for the trip.
The irony of it was that Kartar was informed of his dropping at the airport just. before the departure of the team.
Kartar Singh took up the issue with the Sports Minister and the Home Minister, Buta Singh but to no avail.
