JAMMU: The state government ‘has sought additional forces from the Center for tackling the law and order situation in the Jammu region once the “ekia yatra” reaches here.
Reliable sources said that the initial demand was for two battalions of the BSF and the CRPF to cope up with the situation when ‘workers of the BJP would reach Jammu on January 24.
‘Although the state government and the central intelligence agencies have in their reasons to the Union Government opposed permission for the marchers to cross Udham pur, the requisition for additional forces has been made because adequate police prevention was needed even up to the ‘Uahampur area
The sate government is already hard pressed for want of additional security forces following the ‘maximum possible deployment of the BSF and the CRPF in the Kashmir valley. I has not been found feasible to pull out even two companies of the central forces from the valley where ‘Digger security cover is needed in case the yatra is allowed to reach Srinagar.
‘The sources said that senior BJP leaders had been assured by the state government that the national flag would be hoisted in Lal ‘Chowk on Republic Day and as such there was Kashmir when the security forces were engaged in crucial counterinsurgency operations.
However, despite the assurance the state unit of the BUP has decided to make arrangements for the stay of the marches in Jammu and for their onward journey to Srinagar.
‘A few local BJP activists want the government to get in touch with senior pany leaders in Delhi as it is not for the local unit to abandon the yatra.
‘These activists are hopeful that since some Muslim leaders have decided to join the yatra there is ‘no possibility of reaction in the Kashmir valley. Moreover, the yatra has already begun it should i.e. followed to end at Srinagar. Intelligence agencies have informed the Center of serious repercussions the yatra would lead to in view of threats from militants was allowed to cross Banihal.
