New Delhi — The Janata Party on Friday refuted the Prime Minister Mr. Rajiv Gandhi’s allegation that a minister in the Janata government in 197778 had held talks with the ‘‘Khalistan’’ leaders in United States and England to disintegrate the country.

Describing the allegation as irresponsible and unfounded the Janata Party said in a statement that this showed the ‘‘unclean politicking by the so-called Mr. Clean.”

The statement added that before the parliamentary elections, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi had made similar allegations about support given by the opposition to Anandpur resolution. ‘‘After two months, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi has started a new campaign based on untruth probably believing that everything is fair to win the elections.
