NEW DELHI (PTI): India on Feb.26 opened a dialogue with France on disarmament and nuclear nonproliferation issue on the lines of one already initiated with the United States.
The French team was led by Philippe Thiebaud, a senior French foreign ministry official, and the Indian side by H.K.Singh, joint secretary (West).
The two sides were also understood to have tackled the question of supply of fuel by France to Tarapur plant the contract for which expires towards the end of the year.
India has rejected a U, Supported proposal for a five nation summit to resolve the nuclear issue in south Asia but it favors a bilateral dialogue on the issue with the developed countries.
During the German Chancellor, Helmut Kohl’s visit here recently, the two countries agreed to have a bilateral dialogue on various aspects of the nuclear nonproliferation issue.
