KOCHI: Janata Dal chief S.R. Bommai alleged that Prime Minister P.V.Narasimha Rao is behind the latest defections from his party.
Participating in a Meet-the Press program organized by the Ernakulum Press Club here, Bommai said that his party had reliable information that Rao’s close aides had manipulated the defections, which was “most unfortunate” for the Dal.
There is no reason to disbelieve that Rao’s aides, who had worked behind the defections, had done it with the Prime Minister and his party’s assent,” Bommai said. He warned that such “manipulative tactics” would only boomerang on the former.
Alleging that Rao was playing “politics of survival” and was unable to take any bold decisions, Bommai said the Prime Minister should realize that a manipulated majority would not help him for long. He felt that the Government might not survive long and foresaw the mister himself had kindling the spirit and mined to have an introspection with a view to check Hedge’s threat to resign, Bommai said “things would be sorted out soon. I have already spoken to Hegde and Patil.”
On the stock scam, he said the RBI Governor’s dismissal and the resignation of the Finance Minister would have been ideal.
Bommai also said his party would extend all cooperation to the Prime Minister for his efforts in solving the vexed Ayodhya issue.
