OTTAWA: The prosecution here has filed an appeal against the sentence awarded to a Indo-Canadian doctor of North Bay Ontario.
Dr. Chikmaglur Mohan a Pediatrician was convicted of sexually assaulting three teenage female patients and sentenced to six months in jail.
In addition to the prosecution demand for a stiffer sentence the doctor also faces an investigation launched by the Ontario College of Physicians and surgeons into his professional conduct. He could be suspended for life from the profession.
Dr. Mohan the chief Pediatrician of two Nomh Bay hospitals was convicted on January 4 after being found guilty on four counts of sexual assault on three female patients ranging in age from 13 to 16 years. He has appealed against the conviction and sentence.
A spokesman for the college of Physicians and surgeons of Ontario said that the controlling body launched the investigation against Dr.Monan following the outcry largely from women groups seeking belter safeguards against sexual assaults by doctors on patients.
