NEW DELHI: India went one up in the under 19 four test series against Pakistan as they won the first test by three wickets in a dramatic finish on the fourth and final day at the feroze Shah Koual in this Indian capital, on Jan 7th.
Pakistan, fired by a superb knock of 154 from Zahid Fazil, seta victory target of 136 off 33 overs, but India hit up the required total with 15 balls to spare in the mandatory overs. However, India had to survive many anxious moments before the triumph as fortunes fluctuated constantly.
Jatin Paranjpe played a stroke-full unbeaten 18, which included two fours and ne six. Usual opener Dhruv Pandov, who came seven down due to an ankle injury, was not out on six.
India, the inaugural under 19 Asia cup champions, had a disastrous start as they began chasing a moderate total.
Medium pacer Athar Laiq swung the ball beautifully to have India reeling at 39 for four at one stage, He struck once catch in the first three overs to end the first spell 8-0-28-3, Laiq was well supported by Naeem Khan who scalped two victims.
However, Captain Ranjit Biswal and his deputy Ajay Jadeja steadied the innings somewhat, adding 55 runs for the fifth wicket.
