NEW DELHI: Sri Lanka will raise an elite VIP security force with Indian help. The Indian Government has received communications from the Sri Lankan Government in this regard after the assassination of opposition presidential candidate Gemini Dissanayake last month. India has reacted favorably to Sri Lankan request and modalities about the training of a crack outfit for VIP security in the island country will be worked out at a meeting of security experts of both the countries, the meeting is likely to be held in New Delhi very soon. ‘The island nation has conveyed to India that security threat perceptions in both the countries were identical in more ways than one as the dominant factor was the threat from militants.
Indian security experts feel that the security drill that has been perfected after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi by use of a human bomb has been found to work very effectively till now. “However, NO security system can be termed as foolproof because killer squads the world over keep on inventing new ways. We are forced to react to new methods only after an attempt is made.”
