NEW DELHI: A 16 member Indian hockey team for the Seoul Olympics will be announced at Bombay on August 27.
‘The Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) has decided to send Indian Airlines team to Bangalore to practice with the Indian probable there.
‘The Indian squad will return to Delhi on August 27 and after the announcement of the final team, they will play four matches against the junior national team and a few matches against the Punjab and Sind Bank team, become leaving for Seoul,
An IHF official said here on Thursday that the earlier programme of sending a junior team to Bangalore for playing matches against the senior squad has been dropped.
“Now the team selected for the Seoul Olympics will come here to have practice matches before leaving for Seoul.”
He said the THF was planning to send the team to Seoul by September 5 subject to Government clearance.
The official said the THF has already arranged practice matches for the team against Spain, Argentina Holland and Australian at Seoul before the start of the ‘Olympics. BARCELONA, SPAIN, Reuter; International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Juan Antonio Samaranch said on Monday he planned to pursue his efforts to enable double olympic champion Sebastian Coe to run at the Seoul games.
Samaranchi, whose request to the British Amateur Athletic Board (BAAB) to reconsider leaving Goe out of the British Olympic Team was rejected at the weekend, said he now planned to discuss the matter with the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF).
“After I’ve spoken to the Federation I’ll decide what to do,” Samaranch told reuters from his home in Barcelona,
He said he was going to Switzerland on Tuesday and would meet IAAF Officials there.
