NEW DELHI, India, Feb. 25, Reuter: India successfully test fired a 250km range surface to surface air missile on Thursday, Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi said.
Gandhi told Parliament the Prithvi Missile, similar to the Soviet Union’s SS150, was fired into the sea from the Sriharikota Station in the Eastern State of Andhra Pradesh at 11:23 a.m., the Press Trust of India (PTI) said. The Missile was designed and developed by the Defense Research Development Organization, Gandhi said. “There is no foreign knowhow or collaboration involved”.
He said compared with other missiles in the same class, the Indian one had the best warhead to weight ratio, very advanced inertial navigation and guidance systems incorporating onboard computers.
