LONDON(PTI): India has expressed its intention to buy up to 100 British aerospace Hawk trainer aircraft in a deal which could be worth one billion pounds for the group as it faces a shrinking defence market and growing uncertainty over the European fighter project.

“The Guardian” in a report June4 said Indian defence ministry and air force officials made it clear that they favored the two-seater Hawk over two rival aircraft — the Franco-German Alpha Jet produced by Dassault and Dornier and the F-5 produced by Northrop of the U.S.
