NEW DELHI: Hosts India put up a sizling display to down reigning Asian games champions South Korea 50 and enter the semifinals of the 3rd Allwyn Asia Cup Hockey Tournament here on December 22nd.
With four points from two matches India are at the top of pool B and have only to play Bangladesh in the last league match ‘on Sunday. For the other semifinal Berth however, Korea will meet China on the same day and, with two points each from two matches, either can expect only a maximum tally of four points to finish second. In case of a draw, the issue will be decided on goal average.
China defeated Bangladesh 61 earlier in the day. For the spirited Indians, who led 30 at half time it was a matter of great satisfaction to emerge with such a big victory particularly when even the most optimistic were prepared to settle for a one or two goal margin.
It did not really matter that the South Koreans are a completely revamped young side, They still are the reigning Asian games champions. The creditable achievement was beating them at their own game speed.
