UNITED NATIONS: Three civilian leaders from Kashmir were forced last week to cancel a visit to the United Nations and Washington to argue their case for political negotiations to end a secessionist war in Kashmir, after they were denied passports by India.

The three Baha Uddin Farooqui, former chief justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court; Mian Abdul Qayoom, president of the Kashmir Bar Association, and Noor Ul Hassan, head of the Kashmir Forum for Human Rights and Civil Liberties were part of a delegation headed by Abdul Gani Lone, who holds valid travel documents.

They had been invited to address seminars at the Asia Society, the Garnegie Endowment for International Peace and the United States Institute for Peace, in addition to the General Assembly and various United Nations missions

‘Mr. Lone decided on the eve of the trip not to travel without his fellow delegates.
