MUKTSAR: The police Oct.31 failed attempts by supporters of the dissident Congress MP, Jagmit Singh Brar, to reach Amritsar for the proposed “Lok yudh morcha”’ to be launched there Tuesday.

All exit and entry points to the town were sealed. The police had put up nakas to prevent the supporters of Brar from reaching the historic Gurdwara Tutti Gandhi here. However, Brar was able to reach Amritsar after paying obeisance at the gurdwara early Monday despite tight security.

Although the Faridkot district administration and the Punjab. Government had denied that no ban had been imposed on the morcha; the police was stopping people from reaching the historic gurdwara where prayers for the success of the morcha were to be held. The police cither stopped or rounded up even Sevardars of the gurdwara who were later let off, when certain supporters of Brar managed to reach the holy place, some plain clothes men entered the gurdwara with a view to persuading them from proceeding to ‘Amritsar. Some policewomen also ‘searched the premises of the gurdwara
