NEW DELHI: The famous West German Hockey coach, Horst Wein is to come to India on a short duration assignment later this year.

Ashwini Kumar, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said here that he secured the service of Mr. Wein through the personal intervention of the IOC President, Mr. Juan Antonio Samaranch.

Mr. Kumar said the details of Mr. Wein’s programme which envisages coaching the national team as well as coaches, were being worked out.

Mr. Samaranch has even sent a cheque for $20,000 to cover the expenses and it has been handed over to the secretary general of the Indian Olympic Association, Mr. Randhir Singh, he said.

Mr. We in was the coach of the West German team which won the hockey gold in the 1972 Munich Olympic Games.
