NEW DELHI(PTI): A passenger stuck in city traffic, a consignee whose goods would be cleared an hour after the scheduled departure time or just a disgruntled employee more than half the hoax bomb threat calls that delay flights are made by people with vested interest. Sources at the bureau of civil ‘aviation security (BCAS) say there were 290 fake bomb threat calls in 1990 which rose to 327in “91,421 in “92 to 509 in 1993.
However, following the introduction of monitoring and tracing cells the number of these calls has come down to 124 till date this year, according to official statistics. These cells, located in all major airports not only monitor and trace calls but also record the voice of the caller.
